questions about anything in the NFL football players jersey im seeing now?
What is the black circle with two big letters on it GU saying. what does it mean? Ohhhh …. not yet know … I know he died last month and was a Hall of Fame lineman for the assailants, but I see the GU patch on the shirts and did not know what it meant …. . now that i think about it, is so obvious.
The GU is a tribute to Gene Upshaw the 15 years Oakland Raider Hall of Fame guard (# 63) and Executive Director of the Union player who passed away in August. Upshaw was an active member of the negotiating committee for the National Football League 'Players' Association (NFLPA) throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. NFLPA led the unsuccessful strike in 1987 years and through antitrust litigation against the league, including a brief period in which the NFLPA became a professional association rather than a union, which ended with the acceptance of the union of a salary cap in return for free agency and a larger share of the revenues of the league for union members.
